The little lady is nearing her first full year on the outside of me. Sometimes I think back to how much I wanted a redhead when I was knocked up, and I laugh. It is really awesome to have a wee ginger in the family, but the joy her pretty hair (and eyes and face and smile and laugh) brings me pales in comparison to the unbridled joy of simply knowing her.

And none of my beautiful girl would be possible without her papa.

Her wonderful papa, my beautiful husband.

Thank you, Bobby for bringing this perfect girl into our world. Thank you for trusting me to be the mother of your children, and for letting me trust you to be my baby daddy. Thank you for being born on this day 31 years ago. You are my love, actually. Happy birthday!

Although Olivia was born in Brooklyn, and lived there for the first 9 months of her life, she is not going to remember our beautiful little neighborhood, overflowing with all the people and places that kept us there for nearly seven years.

I will miss Olivia in Brooklyn for her.

Every weekday Olivia gets to go for a ride in the car (twice!). First is her drop-off with Doris, the nanny, in the morning; later she makes the return trip to Megan at home. Don't let this picture fool you... although she will inevitably fall asleep once strapped into her car seat, she always puts up a good fight!

... or, "a meeting of the minds"! Detective Lenny Briscoe, everyone's favorite recovering alcoholic feline, is becoming more and more interested in little Olive. Lenny will slink around her whenever she's awake and calm. Let's be honest, those are the times anyone would be most interested in the little boogar.

Olive, of course could care less about the cat. Dangly toys are another story entirely.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the baby Jesus ('tis the season!!) for the Tiny Love Play Mat you see in these pictures. I can set the little bug down for 15 minutes with no crying. She's completely enthralled, especially by the dangly little mirror. Just like Mom - so vain!

Olivia loves being swaddled while she sleeps, and it does seem to keep her in a deeper sleep for longer. I have to admit, though, that the main reason I swaddle her is so I can watch her big morning stretch when I break her out of it. It takes all f my willpower to not eat her whole after this display of cute.

Road Trip!

Olivia went on her first real road trip recently. We trekked out to Sunny Pittsburgh for the nuptials of Aunt Shannon and Uncle Timmy. Olivia was phenomenally well behaved - she slept through the ceremony and 90% of the reception.

Megan tried her best to get fancied up for the party. Instead of makeup and brushed hair, she strapped the little nugget onto her and hoped that nobody would pay attention to her hygene. Her ingenious plan worked - Sleeping Beauty was a big hit!

She wears black on the outside, because black is how she feels on the inside.

Well, it looks like the "cute baby" honeymoon is over! Bad skin, crossed eyes, and a pink floral onesie? What's happening?!?!

Of course Olivia is still the most perfect creature in existence, we consider her case of baby acne to simply be a gift to the rest of the world's children so they can feel a little less inferior. It hurts me more than it hurts O, really.

Frightened mama got so scared that the baby acne was actually the hanta virus or something equally deadly, so we went to the pediatrician. The doctor said this was totally normal, and it only looks as bad as it does because our little nugget has her mamas sensitive skin.

So, just in case you were missing your teenage years, I post this picture. It should clear up within a couple of weeks, but in the meantime, we are listening to lots of The Smiths, Morrissey, The Cure and wearing black nail polish. And keeping our eyes completely googly eyed, apparently.

Today was a big day at Chez English. Olivia had been looking forward to making her voice heard in this election, throwing up her "Baby Power" fist every time we put MSNBC on. When she woke up, she started fussing & fidgeting in anticipation for her first big vote!

Unfortunately, we didn't get her registered to vote in time for this election. She puked on both of us in protest. We all made amends with a nice warm meal, and Olivia decided she would help us out with our voting.
All the old ladies at the polling place fussed over Olivia, but she was having none of it. She just wanted to pull that lever. Just like her parents, that one.

Babies and Beer

Having endured the challenges of a long and exhausting campaign, Olivia celebrated in style on Election Day at Bar Great Harry.

Unable to decide between the Avery Imperial IPA and the Captain Lawrence Pumpkin Ale, little Olive settled for a pint of warm milk.
